I have a preference for the MX Browns due to their quietness and tactile feel however, for those not in an open office or prefer more keyboard feedback and feel, the MX Blues offer a great typing experience. One nice feature of the Das is the ability to choose between 2 different types of key switches, either the clicky typist friendly Cherry MX Blue or the more versatile and tactile Cherry MX Brown. This level of customisation and choice is one significant advantage over other keyboard types, such as the typical membrane keyboard. A mechanical keyboard is also typically more durable and offers a choice of different key switches, each providing a different typing feel.

It is hard to find a high-quality mechanical keyboard that fully supports macOS, so hats off to Das keyboard for making a specific Mac model.Ī mechanical keyboard offers a more tactile and responsive typing experience and is preferred by typists, programmers and gamers.

Whilst it is not the cheapest mechanical keyboard available, it will outlast your PC and potentially your next one as well. The root edition is a variant of the popular and highly rated Das Keyboard 4 Professional and offers the same full-size keyboard layout, solid and robust construction and Cherry MX key switches. Das keyboard makes a wide range of solid and reliable mechanical keyboards with a focus on typing experience and build quality. USB connectivity is a bit more practical as it enables the two USB ports on the side, providing a mini hub for your small USB devices. The Das Keyboard 4 root edition is one of my favourite mechanical keyboards. PS/2 connectivity will prevent "ghost keys" or "key jamming" when too many keys are pressed at the same time. Overall Review: This keyboard can be connected with PS/2 port (if you've got one!) or via USB. If you don't want mechanical then you can find cheaper keyboards, obviously. I don't game on this keyboard - I use it exclusive at the office, so I can't speak to any WASD keyboard jamming issues. Still, I've never run into an issue while typing or programming. Price: This is an average/good price for a solid mechanical keyboard.Ĭons: Requires PS/2 port to guarantee no "key jamming" when multiple keys are pressed simultaneously. Working in a cube farm in a quiet office, I've never gotten any complaints.
Sound: Louder than any laptop or desktop membrance keyboard, but much quieter than older clicky keyboards. Pros: Feel: Allows for as light or hard a touch as you want and still registers a key press. I will probably never go back to any membrane keyboard. I received it today and I couldn't be happier. I purchased this one after doing a lot of research, and watching a lot of YouTube videos of keyboard reviews.
Since then, I've used only the membrane keyboards, and I had forgotten how much of a difference a good keyboard makes, and this is a great keyboard. Overall Review: I had a "clicky" keyboard years ago with my IBM XT.
The usb ports on the side are a nice touch for throwing a thumb drive in quick, although they're a bit snug.Ĭons: I literally just got this a couple hours ago, and I can't think of any cons right now. It is a mechanical keyboard, and as such is louder than a membrane KB - but not too loud. Pros: I absolutely love this keyboard! It's heavy (as most 'clicky' keyboards are.) It looks very nice, and most importantly it just feels (and sounds!) awesome to type on.
